Guinea Alumina Corporation SA (GAC) is the recipient of the cope-guinea prize for the best mining company in the country for the year 2016

Guinea Alumina Corporation SA (GAC), a bauxite mining company and a major player in the mining sector in the Republic of Guinea, won the prize for the BEST MINING CORPORATION OF THE COUNTRY FOR THE YEAR 2016 on Friday, February 03, 2017, which was awarded by COPE-GUINEA (coordinator of the collective of non-governmental organizations for the promotion of excellence).
This prize was awarded to GAC at the 7th edition of GUINEA BEST COMPANY AWARDS 2016 held at the Grand Hotel de l'Indépendance in Conakry.
The event was organized in partnership with the Ministry of SME Industry and Private Sector Promotion, the Ministry of Youth and Youth Employment, the State Ministry for the Presidency in charge of Investment, the public-private partnership, and in the presence of members of government authorities, national and international institutions, civil society, and the media... which rewarded the various companies nominated in their respective categories.
GAC was selected following the results of a survey provided by the firm POLE INVESTMENT, a Guinean firm specializing in opinion polls, surveys, studies, and recruitment.
This award is part of GAC's remarkable progress and investment in the development of its bauxite and alumina export project in the Boké region, where it holds a mining concession of more than one billion tonnes of bauxite, with commercial production expected for 2018. These investments include, among other things, the construction of the commercial wharf at the port of Kamsar to import the materials needed to carry out work on the railway, road works, and various major construction projects.
GAC also invests in community capacity building in the Boké, Kamsar, and Sangaredi project areas by building community health centers, building wells, building schools, implementing literacy programs and vocational training, as well as investments for the protection of fauna and flora. More than 200 Guineans will be deployed in the coming years to EGA facilities in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to prepare them for key positions in the project.
