GAC launches awareness campaign in around fifty localities in the Boké region

Kamsar, Tuesday, June 25, 2024 --- Guinea Alumina Corporation (GAC) has today launched an ex-tensive awareness campaign to combat malaria in Boké, thus reiterating its ongoing commitment to public health and the well-being of local communities. This initiative will run for 11 days, from June 25 to July 3, 2024, targeting populations in high-risk areas. It is part of GAC’s Corporate Social Responsi-bility (CSR) initiatives and aims to reduce malaria cases in the targeted areas.

In close collaboration with the local medical team, GAC plans to distribute 7,000 long-lasting insecticidal nets, which are highly effective in preventing mosquito bites that transmit the disease. Moreover, edu-cational sessions will be conducted to further inform and educate the population on effective prevention practices and the critical importance of regularly using these nets.

This campaign will reach approximately 53 villages and localities, encompassing 1,877 households and 13,500 individuals, including 314 pregnant women and 4,073 children under the age of five. The cam-paign aims to provide these communities with practical solutions to prevent and fight this disease.

This campaign is expected to have a significant impact, as it will not only reduce malaria cases but further serve as a model of community participation and intersectoral collaboration. GAC invites all stakeholders to take part in these crucial efforts geared towards the health and future of the Boké com-munities. Hand in hand, we can make a significant difference in the fight against malaria, which will in turn improve the quality of life of our fellow citizens.
