
Guinea Alumina Corporation reaches 1 million tonnes of bauxite shipped as ramp-up continues

Kamsar, Tuesday 30 July 2019 --- Guinea Alumina Corporation (GAC) Board of Directors today announced the appointment of Daniel Cornel Pop as Acting Chief Executive Officer.
“Daniel has been Chief Operations Officer of GAC since 2017, leading the work to prepare the company for operations. With exports of bauxite now beginning, we are confident that Daniel is the right person to lead GAC into the next phase,” said Abdulla Kalban, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Emirates Global Aluminium and Chairman of Guinea Alumina Corporation. “On behalf of the Board, I wish Daniel every success in his new role.”
Mr. Pop joined GAC in March 2017 as the company’s Chief Operations Officer. He has over two decades of experience in the mining industry on four continents and holds a successful track record for running high-capacity mining operations as well as building mining projects in some of the most challenging and isolated regions of the world. He previously worked for Rio Tinto, BHP, London Mining, African Minerals and has worked in both coal and metalliferous mines. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering from University of Petrosani, Romania, an MBA from the Deakin University Australia, an Australian Mine Manager’s Certificate, and is a member of Engineers Australia.
