Supported by GAC, the Rio Nunez Development Center announces a second cohort of 25 auto mechanics ready for corporate internships

Kamsar, Wednesday, September 20, 2023: Guinea Alumina Corporation S.A. (GAC), today announced that the Rio Nunez Development Center’s second cohort of 25 learners, including 5 women, has successfully completed its courses. Located in Boké, the Center aims to provide young postgraduate auto mechanics from ENAM, CFP, CEPERTAM, and other institutions with training in order to tailor their capacity to avail themselves of cutting-edge technology related to modern motor vehicles’ mechanical and electronic systems.

The students of this second cohort are now ready for their internship kickoffs within some of the most reputable companies, namely CFAO Motors, Alex Garage Canagui, The Mining House, GPC, DTP, Atiko, and of course, GAC. Not only does this hands-on internship allow the students to employ the practical skills they acquired during the training, but it further opens the door for youth job opportunities.

The Rio Nunez Development Center was funded by GAC with the partnership of develoPPP, a program launched by Germany’s Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and implemented by DEG Impulse. $1 million was invested in the Center, as the latter is equipped with cutting-edge tools that allow it to pursue its mission. To this day, the Center has trained 50 students, including 10 daring female auto mechanics who are breaking the stereotypes. Most first-cohort students have either been hired in some of the most reputable companies or have signed pre-employment contracts. In October 2023, the Rio Nunez Development Center will receive a new cohort of 25 students, almost half of whom will be women, which demonstrates once again GAC’s commitment to promoting gender equality in technical professions.
