Guinea Alumina Corporation reaches 1 million tonnes of bauxite shipped as ramp-up continues

Kamsar, Wednesday 15 January 2020 — Guinea Alumina Corporation S.A. (GAC) today announced that it has shipped over one million tonnes of bauxite ore since exports began in August. The company continues ramping up production, which is expected to reach some12 million tonnes per year.

Daniel Cornel Pop, Acting Chief Executive Officer of GAC, said: “We are making good progress with our production ramp-up, with mine, rail and port facilities all performing as planned, and the quality of bauxite we are producing for our customers is on target. Our performance is a source of great and justifiable pride, not only because we have the best equipment, the best technologies and the best processes, but mainly because we have the best people who managed to develop a working environment where teamwork and fulfilment at work have become core values of our organisation.”

Mr. Pop added, “Building on our strong roots, GAC is more than ever looking toward the future, with a mining plan that will ensure reliable operations for many years to come, good jobs for the current and the next generations while stimulating the economy and garnering enthusiasm across the Boké region. This positive outlook will be the result of our unwavering determination, the commitment of our employees, and the support of our business partners as well as the communities to which we belong.”

It is worth noting that GAC’s parent company, Emirates Global Aluminium, invested some $1.4 billion to develop GAC, one of the largest greenfield investments in the Republic of Guinea in the past 40 years. GAC, and EGA’sAl Taweelah alumina refinery in Abu Dhabi which began production in April, expand EGA’s business upstream in the aluminium value chain. The projects create new revenue streams for EGA and help secure the supply of raw materials EGA needs at competitive prices.
