GAC to exit Guinea after expropriation

United Arab Emirates, 22 Aug 2025: Emirates Global Aluminium today announced that Guinea Alumina Corporation will definitively terminate all its activities, following the illegal expropriation of its assets by the Republic of Guinea.

For several weeks, GAC has offered to work with the Guinean authorities on a safe and orderly handover, while reserving all the company’s rights. Government authorities have continued to act unilaterally and to adopt a series of illegal measures against GAC to take over GAC’s operations and assets.

GAC is now completing the orderly termination of employees and contracts with all its on-site service providers, and will no longer have any presence or control on its sites effective Friday 22 August 2025 at 23:59 local time.

Effective Saturday, 23 August 2025, 00:00, the Republic of Guinea will have exclusive responsibility for the operation and security of the facilities, infrastructure, equipment and materials.
