GAC responds to public statements

Kamsar, Tuesday 27 May 2025 - Guinea Alumina Corporation (GAC) is obliged to respond to public statements made against the company, while reaffirming the company’s deep commitment to Guinea and the Guinean people.

GAC’s commitment to Guinea is strong and long-standing. The development of GAC has been the largest greenfield investment in the Guinean mining sector in more than four decades, creating thousands of jobs for Guineans, wider economic opportunity in the supply chain, and development partnerships with local communities. In operation, GAC has generated substantial revenues for the Guinean Government.

GAC has always fulfilled all of its obligations under the agreements it has signed with the Guinean state, and strongly contests that it has acted differently. GAC reaffirms its commitment and determination to pursue a lasting partnership with Guinea.

Since October 2024, the Guinean Government and certain Guinean public entities have taken a series of measures against GAC (and the wider EGA group) that run counter to the contractual and international commitments of the Republic of Guinea. These measures have progressively hampered GAC's operations, leading to their complete stoppage in December 2024 and significant financial losses for the company and its shareholders.

Notwithstanding this situation, GAC has continued to prioritise dialogue and the search for solutions with the Guinean authorities, in the hope of a swift resumption of the company’s operations. During this period, GAC has maintained its employee workforce, honouring the company’s economic and social commitment to GAC employees and their families as far as possible.

As regards an alumina refinery project in Guinea, GAC has repeatedly indicated to the Guinean authorities that the realisation such a project is contingent upon overcoming numerous and significant economic, technical and environmental challenges. GAC has continued to actively seek solutions that would enable the project to proceed, and has submitted proposals in this regard to the Guinean Government.

GAC hopes the Guinean Government will resume amicable negotiations and lift all blocking measures against GAC's operations. GAC would welcome the opportunity to meet with the Government representatives at any time to move forward together and quickly find a resolution to the present situation. The shared goal remains clear: to develop Guinea’s natural resources in a way that delivers lasting value for the country and its people.
