GAC relaunches its extensive adult literacy program

Initiated and funded by the Guinea Alumina Corporation (GAC), the extensive functional literacy program that trained nearly 2,000 adults in 2016, in communities that are involved with GAC activities in Sangarédi, Tanènè, and Kamsar, has just been relaunched by the NGO Center for Support for Economic and Social Development (CADES) in partnership with DVV International.
The launch of this second phase, lasting 12 months, was preceded by a workshop to review the activities of the first year of the program, followed by the refresher of 44 members of the community. The workshop took place at the Nafa Center in Sangarédi from the 4th to 12th March 2017.
For the year 2017, the program aims to train nearly 1,700 adults in functional literacy integrating the financing of 20 income-generating activities (IGAs), for the well-being of the beneficiaries and their families. For this, an AGR expert consultant is engaged for feasibility studies and the supervision of beneficiaries during the implementation of activities.
The integration of income-generating activities with literacy will help the beneficiaries to reinvest the gains and also contribute to the socio-economic development of their respective areas. One of the community members in the program said that "someone who can read, write, and calculate their earnings will certainly improve their quality of life."
Classes will resume in the second half of March 2017, in the 44 centers opened for this purpose in Sangarédi, Tanènè, and Kamsar.
Through this renewed action, GAC reiterates once again its commitment to supporting the development of communities.
