GAC: renewed confidence by the Guinean state

The Guinea Alumina Corporation SA (GAC) has just received the Guinean government's confidence in best practices with respect to environmental standards in the implementation of its project of export of bauxite in the Boké region.
This very significant gesture, especially in the field of mining industry, has been confirmed by the presentation of the "Certificate of Environmental Compliance" to GAC on March 3rd, 2017, by the Guinean Ministry of the Environment, Water and Forests, through the Guinean Bureau of Environmental Studies and Evaluation (BGEEE). This certificate is awarded to the mining promoters in Guinea by the State to attest to their abilities and competencies to meet the requirements of protection and preservation of the environment according to the standards in place. GAC, as far as the environment and other business sectors are concerned, adheres to the highest standards in the world.

On this occasion, the Director General of GAC, Mrs. Diallo Aissata Beavogui said, "We are very happy with this confidence which, it must be said, is in line with the commitment of our parent company - EGA (" Emirates Global Aluminum ") in terms of sustainability." Above all, she emphasized that at GAC, "We are working to minimize the impact of our project activities on the environment and neighboring communities. We encourage the efficient use of resources, the reduction, and prevention of pollution and the improvement of biodiversity protection throughout the project’s lifecycle."
GAC adopted the International Finance Corporation ("IFC") performance standards in 2012 and the Equator III Principles in 2013. GAC's environmental management strategy includes the following plans:
• Biodiversity Management Plan;
• Management Plan for Erosion and Sediment Control;
• Water Management Plan;
• Rehabilitation and Reforestation Management Plan;
• Waste Management Plan;
• Management Plan for Dredging and Waste Disposal;
• Air Quality Management Plan; and
• Sound and Vibration Management Plan.
The period of validity of the certificate is one year and is renewable. After an evaluation deemed satisfactory by the BGEEE and the implementation of the Environmental and Social Management Plan of the promoter, GAC received its first certificate on 23 February 2016, which has just been renewed.
Once again, GAC demonstrates its responsibility and commitment to the environment.
