GAC is committed to improving community livelihoods

Conakry, Guinea: Guinea Alumina Corporation (GAC) is continuing its project to support the food security of neighboring communities in its area of intervention.

08 June 2017 was marked by the official launch of various projects through the delivery of agricultural tools, peanut seeds to 12 promoters, and the laying of the first stone of the first poultry farm project. This launch took place in the presence of the sub-district and commune authorities of Tanènè and Sangaredi, sector chiefs and district chiefs, as well as the authorities of the National School of Agriculture and Livestock of Koba (ENAE).

Eight agropastoral projects were implemented to support 12 young people who received theoretical and practical training for nine months at the ENAE in order to improve the means of subsistence of local communities.

These agribusiness projects will enable these young leaders to improve their productivity through agropastoral practices that respect the environment. Among the eight projects, two collective projects are oriented towards food crops during the rainy season and market gardening in the dry season. The promoters are each equipped with a tiller to facilitate plowing operations in the agricultural fields. These machines are also used to transport manure, compost, and harvested products.

Also, three collective projects and three individual projects were oriented to breeding, including poultry farming, which consists of the construction of semi-modern hen houses, the closing of estates, the construction of wells, the purchase, breeding, and maintenance of laying hens.

On behalf of her colleagues, the representative of the beneficiaries said, "With this gesture, we are reassured that we are in the implementation phase of our projects and this calls us to do more serious work. This is an opportunity for us to warmly thank GAC, who initiated and financed this project, as well to thank the technical supervision of the ENAE. "

GAC, once again, demonstrates its commitment to support the development of local communities.
